Chicago Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
A tummy tuck is meant to reduce abdomen protustion by removing excess skin and fat from that area and by tightening those muscles.
The surgeon will make an incision at the bottom of the lower abdomen, just above the pubic area. The muscles are pulled together, creating a tightened look. The abdominal skin is then stretched back over this area, extra skin removed, the navel repositioned, and the skin sutured back in place.
Some pain will persist for a couple days following surgery, but oral medication can help relieve that. The recovery period usually sees patients heading back to work about 2 weeks after having the procedure, but this can depend on their previous medical conditions. The scars will never completely fade, but they are easily hidden under clothes, and even under swim wear.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is a tummy tuck necessary rather than liposuction?
A tummy tuck would usually be required when treating loose, sagging skin. Liposuction wouldn't be successful treating that on it's own.
