Frequently Asked Breast Augmentation Questions

Is it better to have the implant go over or under the muscle?

The answer to this can vary for every woman. In general, many doctors prefer behind the muscle placement for a more natural look, but there are benefits to both methods.

Should I go with round implants, or "anatomically-shaped" or "tear-drop shaped" implants?

Again, every woman has a different situation and therefore different needs, so there isn't any one answer to this. Most doctors use a variety of shapes and textures for their implants and will suggest the one that will look most natural for the patient.

If the implant leaks, will it harm me?

The implant is filled with a saline solution, which is the same fluid used in intravenous solutions. If the implant ever does leak, your body will naturally and safely absorb the saline solution. Also, in the case of this occurence, your implant manufacturer should replace the implant at no cost.

Can I breast feed after having this procedure?

Yes. Most patients can, but should discuss this more with their doctor.

Can I have a mammogram after having this procedure?

Yes.

Will I lose sensation in my nipples?

Many patients experience a temporary change in nipple sensation. The risk of experiencing anything permanent is very small.

Chicago Breast Lift

A breast lift will raise breasts that sag, whether the trait has developed over the years, from pregnancy, or has always been a problem for the patient. It is not uncommon for this procedure to be combined with a breast augmentation to ehance the shape of the breasts and improve the bust line

Breast lift surgery usually involved an anchor-shaped incision, through which excess skin is removed. The areola is then repositioned to a more natural point. This leaves the patient with perkier, firmer breasts.

You will be sore after your surgery, but able to recover and get back to menial tasks in a few days to a week. Generally, you can return to work in about a week. More strenuous activities can be resumed usually within about a month after having the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have ugly scars?

Some scarring will be visible, but the improvement in the appearance of your breasts will usually overshadow any undesirable appearance of scarring, depending on the extent of your surgery. For most patients, it's simply a matter that will have to be weighed before undergoing surgery, and reputable Chicago cosmetic surgeon should give you a clear idea of your potential scarring.

Chicago Breast Reduction

A breast reduction surgery can help women with oversized breasts gain a more approriately sized and shaped bust. Breast reduction can also help relieve medical problems such as back, neck, and shoulder pain.

An anchor-shaped incision is made and excess fat, tissue, and skin removed from the breasts. Surgery may take several hours to complete, but will result in firmer, smaller breasts.

A restful recovery period will be required for a day or two following surgery. For several weeks after the surgery, you will want to wears a medical support bra and you will be required to avoid any heavy lifting. Most Chicago breast reduction patients can return to work within a couple weeks of surgery and to normal activities within a few weeks after that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get insurance coverage for this procedure?

Many breast reduction surgeries actually are covered by insurance, though this can vary between networks. A woman who has experienced and sought treatment of neck or back pain will likely be granted at least partial coverage.
