Chicago Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, corrects the look of droopy or sagging upper or lower eyelids. It leaves patients with a rejuvenated look that is usually suited to how old the patient feels, rather than their true age.
The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and involves the surgeon removing excess skin and muscle from the upper or lower eyelids. The surgery can last anywhere from about 1-3 hours. There are variations of this procedure that involve the use of a laser.
There is moderate pain experienced during the recovery period, but cold compresses can be used to help diminish swelling. It's usually within about a week of surgery that sutures are removed and patients return to work. Patients can expect a more youthful look that is free of fatigue and premature aging.
Frequently Asked Questions
Won't scars from eyelid surgery be noticeable?
No. Surgeons make the incisions strategically along the natural eye, so they're well-hidden. Some variations of this surgery allow for making the incision on the inside of the eyelid.
Will there be an obvious change to the natural shape of my eyes?
The natural shape of your eyes will remain, and it won't be obvious that you had surgery, but a subtle rejuvenation will be apparent.
